Last December 2, Rostec announced that Uralvagonzavod had sent a batch of T-72B3M tanks to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The tanks have passed a full range of tests, accepted by the customer in accordance with the requirements of the normative and technical documentation and the terms of the contract.

The work was carried out as part of the execution of the state defense order, which provides for the modernization of T-72B tanks to the level of T-72B3M. At Uralvagonzavod, which turns 85 in 2021, "seventy-two" from the repair fund have undergone major repairs. Compared to the original version, the shipped T-72B3Ms have significantly improved characteristics.
Design engineers of the Ural Design Bureau of Transport Engineering are continuously modernizing T-72 tanks. Hence, the T-72B3M is equipped with a new fire control system, which includes an aiming system with a modern thermal image, as well as a digital ballistic computer that automates the process of preparing a shot and significantly increases firing accuracy.
The guided weapon system on the modernized T-72B3 destroys targets with a guided missile from a standstill and in motion, day and night at ranges of up to 5,000 meters with a probability close to 100%. And an automatic target system tracking provides an increase in the accuracy of shooting at moving targets and significantly reduces the time for preparing a shot. Modern means of communication provide hidden noise-immune radio communication with technical masking modes.
The tank is equipped with a 1,130 hp V-92S2F engine, produced by ChTZ-Uraltrak. To help the driver-mechanic, a chassis control system was introduced that shows parameters on a special display. The upgraded T-72B3 tank also received more efficient protection.
